What is Online Academic?

A monthly newsletter and community helping researchers to build their profile, navigate social media and learn how to communicate their work online.

A red fishig boat is to the right of the viewer as we look back over the sea to the coast line with a small town and cliffs in the background.
All pictures I use are my own. This was Lyme Regis on the South Coast of England in... 2017?

This is Online Academic, a monthly newsletter and community helping researchers to build their profile, navigate social media and learn how to communicate their work online.

I'm Daniel. I've worked in the media industry as a trained journalist, in the creative sector designing websites, and now in Higher Education as a communication specialist. Throughout my career I've presented ideas in a way that demonstrate value and told stories that capture the imagination.

Whether you're new to academia as a PhD researcher or an experienced Professor looking to explore new ways to share your work, Online Academic is dedicated to helping you.

Why subscribe to Online Academic?

You're an expert in your field but it can be difficult to know where to begin when navigating the ever-changing world of social media, building websites, and producing media.

Each month, I produce easy to follow, step-by-step guides to help you build your presence online with confidence.

Who is this for?

This is for the academic community. Although some guides are general information on how elements work, it is tailored for those who are in the research community—whether you're studying for a PhD, a seasoned Professor or running communications on behalf of a project.

And it's verified, but what does that mean?

A verified network

To be a part of the Online Academic community, I ask for you to use your academic email address (ie name@institution.ac.uk / @institution.edu) and to send your ResearchGate / PURE or similar verifiable institutional listing that identifies you as working in this area. (NB Please don't share any personal information).

This ensures:
· You know you're part of a like-minded community
· Allows me to get to know you and your research
· Enables the build of a private OA Network—where you can ask your contemporaries questions, share your own successes and build connections across academia.
